YELLOW PAGES SA YOUTH, JUNIOR AND SCHOOLS NATIONAL TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS TAKE TO GERMISTON

From Thursday, 29 March to Saturday 31 March Germiston Stadium will be the venue for the inaugural Yellow Pages South African Youth, Junior and Schools National Track and Field Championships where in the region of 2000 athletes will descend on Ekurhuleni and compete over 3 days.
From Thursday, 29 March to Saturday 31 March Germiston Stadium will be the venue for the inaugural Yellow Pages South African Youth, Junior and Schools National Track and Field Championships where in the region of 2000 athletes will descend on Ekurhuleni and compete over 3 days.

This will be the first year that Athletics SA and South African Schools Athletics (SASA) have combined the Yellow Pages South African Youth, Junior and u/23 Championships and the SA School Championships.

Age categories include Under 23, Junior (Under 18), Youth (under 16) and sub-youth as well as learners with special education needs (junior, youth, sub-youth and primary-youth).

Altogether 26 provinces will compete at the championships, 9 provinces from SASA and the 17 Athletics South Africa Provinces.  SASA athletes have been selected from registered learners who competed in the official Schools league system.   Athletics SA provinces have selected athletes who are members of clubs and who have met the qualifying standards, provided those athlete were not selected for a SASA provincial team. 

With some former junior champions now senior athletes this leaves the spot open for new champions to make their mark in athletics. The Yellow Pages SA Youth, Junior and Schools National Track and field Championships will also be the platform for junior athletes to qualify for the World Junior Championships taking place from 10-15 July in Barcelona.

The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday 28 February at 17h00 at Germiston Stadium.
